These cables are fully functional — at least to charging and synching my old iPad, which is what I was after. I did not test connection or charging speed, just that they performed the basic functions (charge, sync, file transfer) without complication. The cable does not provoke inscrutable messages from the iPad or the laptop when connecting (not sure if that's a flaw or a bonus, but it's not annoying). The upside of braided cable covering is protection from kinks, nicks, and abrasion (and they look nice). The downside of braided covering is that they hide the actual cable and insulation from non-destructive inspection. A tightly braided sheath decreases flexibility, but also does much more than a loose braid to protect conductors and insulation from bending fatigue. The braid on these cables fully covers the wiring, and is on the tight/firm end of the scale as a protective layer. The cable appears a nominal 4mm diameter, but actually measures a bit over even compressed. The connectors seem quite sturdy and well attached, with a 1" firm but flexible strain relief covering — this both protects the cable from being pulled off the connector, and provides a "soft" bending point where the cable exits the connector.I like that the connectors are large enough to provide a good grip, but I wish the USB-A connector was marked for orientation. I have some confidence that these cables will prove durable in heavy use.
