We bought this to replace another pet door over 10 years old. we really like this one. The magnet is much stronger and will hold the door securely closed but not latched. Our cat (who is 15 years old and has only used one door) is not a big fan. However, she is learning to make this door with finesse because, as we said, the magnet is stronger than she is used to. husband and I'm sure this cat of ours will survive. UPDATE: We had to remove the red and blue tabs. The cat literally struggled with the door and accidentally moved it and locked it either inside or outside. something is wrong with the door. she just couldn't handle it because it was different than before. However, the sash is still secure, it's just easier to itch now. she is such an old lady
