Unusable - only works when the computer is on

My Mac only recognizes an SDHC card with the CY Standard SD SDHC memory card extension when the card is plugged into the extension cable at startup. If you pull the card out and reinsert it, it will not appear. You must restart your computer each time you insert a card.
