I was concerned about the design of a pen and saw other reviews saying it was difficult to use or didn't work? I had the same problem but after using it twice (the first time I was lost/confused about how it works? lol) but it's actually a great new update of the old dual handle can opener design! Before you put it on the glass. Twist it back a bit (this will open the gripper/knife), place it on the jar and start twisting (it will automatically close the gripper once you start). it spins easily (a couple of times I thought it wouldn't cut, but the lid pops right off (no sharp edges or chips *as one reviewer claimed). *I have neuropathy and the large turning knob is very easy to hold/And now i just love it and am so happy i jumped at the chance to use this innovative new design!
