I have used these devices for many years and have found them very reliable and easy to use. When configuring, simply set the rotary control on the front panel according to the house code of the devices you want to control. [Note: You also need an X10 TM751 Wireless Transceiver Module or equivalent to use this device]. Once the controller is set to the correct house code, all you have to do is press the power button for the appropriate device number to turn it on or off. For lamps or similar dimmable devices, you can use the blue arrow buttons on the bottom of the device to move up/down through the different light levels. At the bottom of the device is a slide switch that allows you to reach more code units with the same row of on/off buttons. This can sometimes cause some confusion when the device doesn't respond when the slide switch is set to the wrong range. Just slide it back and the device will respond. This is a user error, not a device malfunction. There is a thin piece of paper where you can indicate what each button is for. The spacing is a little tight, but it allows the controller's size to fit in the palm of your hand. All in all a handy little gadget.
