Slightly awkward

We bought these shoes for our 1 year old who has been walking great for 9 months but needs to start wearing shoes. We've had success with other styles of shoes, but these faux croc clogs feel a little too clumsy. She almost walks like she's wearing flippers and has more accidents than usual. We love these shoes and we think they're very cute. I just feel like there is too much material on the sides and space in the ankle.
