I have always used a handheld vacuum for many years and have never considered the canister option. (My sister and I would even call it "the old lady's vacuum.”) Now that the floors are 100% hardwood, all research has shown that a canister would be better. The canister does not damage floors like a vertical stand. We've had this vacuum for 2 months now and it's much more than a vertical stand. A canister vacuum has much more power thanks to the suction nozzles and the ability to reach even thin places without pulling out special nozzles. After my experience with this canister vacuum, I will never go back to a vertical one.
