. It's a little difficult to tell when the soundbar is on and off when it's not already working. I spent an awful long time trying to figure out how to make it work, but I finally got it. The instructions don't say this, but it should say (if you're using Roku or another streaming device or gaming console, maybe?) that you'll likely need to connect the soundbar to that device instead of the TV. I figured it out through trial and error, mostly missed. Day 1: I tried both the optical connection and the attached RCA cable. there was no sound to my tv, nothing. I googled a lot, watched a lot of YouTube videos, read the TV manual several times. Day 2: I requested a call from tech support. You leave your number and they call you back almost immediately. They told me to try an aux cable. I had to buy one as it didn't come with a soundbar. They said to test the extra cable from the soundbar to the TV. If that doesn't work, test the soundbar with an additional cable to my smartphone. It didn't work on the TV, but it worked on the phone. Later I just decided to connect the soundbar to Roku with an auxiliary cable and voila, it worked. Too bad Roku doesn't have an additional slot that I could connect to via an optical cable or even an RCA cable, but that's it. I hope my comment helps other buyers. 1) Turn on your TV and soundbar first, 2) connect the RCA, Aux or Optical port from the soundbar to Roku or Desktop. Box,3) On the soundbar remote control, press the button that corresponds to the jack, be it RCA/Aux/Optical. and voila! I had trouble telling when the soundbar was on or off because the red light was on all the time. So I plugged my music stick into the USB port and pressed the "aux" button on the remote control, and when the music started playing, I knew the soundbar was on. With a smart device, it can be much easier. TV. I have a Samsung 50" projection TV from 2007.
