Better than the original

First off, let me say that a lot of people aren't good at writing decent reviews. Whether you're giving very high or very low ratings, it's important to quantify the WHY. Simply saying "that sucks" or "cool" isn't enough for people trying to figure out whether or not they should actually buy the product they're looking at. I bought these to replace a broken key fob. Cases for Lexus RX300 2000 version. I gave this a very high rating because I think it's better than the original for the following reason: A car key consists of a shell that houses the electronics, battery and metal key insert. The factory original key fob case has a molded groove into which the sickle-shaped end of a metal key is inserted. When the case is assembled, the small screw holding it together goes through the hole in the metal key and wedges it between the two halves of the key fob case. No need to worry: However, after several years of use, the body of the key fob will most likely crack in the screw area, which will loosen the metal insert of the key, which will further aggravate the cracked body of the key fob. The new key fob case has a slightly different design. It comes with a plastic key insert through which you must insert the metal key until the crescent shaped end of the key is almost flush with the end of the insert. (There are YouTube videos demonstrating this.) It's a STRONG CONNECTION, so much so that you'll need a pair of pliers (a needle tip works best) to gently "push" the crescent-shaped end of the wrench into the socket. . , alternating from end to end until fully seated. You must provide the pliers yourself as they are not included in this kit. THIS IS NOT A DESIGN PROBLEM! This is by design as the socket MUST be a snug fit. If it's loose, it will wobble a bit when the fob is fully assembled, which is both annoying and will lead to premature failure. Once the metal key is fully inserted into the plastic insert, the key will fit snugly against the end of the open key fob case. Remove the original battery/electronic insert from the original key fob and insert it into the new key fob. (A good time to replace the battery so you don't have to take a long time to open it again.) From there, the back of the new key fob case hooks onto the end where the key rings attach, then tighten FIRMLY the end of the key and the Screw that comes with a new key fob is inserted and tightened to hold the key fob in place. This keychain set comes with a small screwdriver so you don't have to worry about digging it out yourself. The screw that comes with the new key fob case is longer than the original screw. DO NOT use the original screw. This keychain case is more reliable than the original in my opinion as an engineer and will most likely not give you any trouble for many years. Externally it is the same size/shape as the original and you will only notice a slight difference due to the plastic insert mentioned above. This difference is very small and the average lay person probably won't notice unless they install it themselves. For $12 I got two key fob cases in this set and replaced the cracked key fob on both sets of keys. It costs $6 for a key, an offer that's hard to beat, especially with the quality of these keychains.
