Review on GSP NCV23011 Axle Shaft Assembly by Lagant Wardrick

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easiest axle setup I've ever done. My steps are included.

Installation was quick and easy. Includes replaceable axle bolt. The screw originally removed was a 19mm hex head. The new bolt in the box was a 17mm hex, no big deal but check your tool box. I didn't have either and had to buy the full set in HF, the Impact style and a coupon for 29.99 - 20% off. The driver's side was what I replaced after the left turn audibly clicked on the left side. When installed on the driver's side, there was no need to unbolt the suspension or steering components. I'm not a mechanic and don't give advice, but my process was: jack up car, secure properly, remove wheel, loosen axle bolt (hardest part since mine was stubborn), unscrew axle nut about 1/4-1/2. Hit it with a fatal blow (or use a hammer and a block of wood to avoid damage) to loosen the axle from the hub, loosen the six nuts holding the axle to the gearbox (you can use two or do three at a time, and then you have to go into neutral to rotate the axis to access the others, it takes a long extension to get to it easier, maybe 8-10 inches). The rear of the axle detaches and falls off the gearbox. Remove the axle nut to loosen the axle from the hub (be careful as mine was roasted and the axle grease was bleeding out of the bolt hole as a liquid the consistency of motor oil). On a 2014 A4 B8 there was enough room to pull the transmission side of the axle down and toward the rear of the vehicle to allow enough clearance to pull the axle splines out of the hub. Then reinstall to the correct torque and specifications recommended by the manufacturer. j. Much luck.

Pros
  • Front left or right (driver or passenger side)
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
