Review on πŸŽ’ Markryden Lightweight Water Resistant Backpack with Charging Capability by Steven Ripley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Terrible USB charging, good build quality of the case

This case could be perfect. It has fantastic build quality, plenty of pockets for everything you need, great protection and water resistance. The only downside I could find is USB charging (which is very important to me). The USB charging port on this case is ancient technology. It uses a USB 2.0 and a Micro USB charging port. No modern device bought in recent years uses USB 2.0 or Micro-USB, USB 3.0 and USB C are now standard. Almost all modern devices have switched to USB C (e.g. MacBooks, iPads, Samsung Galaxy phones/tablets, etc.). The reason for this is that the capacity of batteries has increased and fast charging is now the trend. And since the external port for it is USB 2.0, even if you have an external battery with USB-C (fast-charge capable), it will only charge at USB 2.0 speeds since it's limited to a 2.0 outlet. That means you can't use the built-in charger with an external USB-C battery unless you want to charge 10x slower. The use of USB 3.0 and USB C gives the device access to fast charging. A modern smartphone takes about 1-2 hours to fast charge via USB C or USB 3.0, depending on the size of the battery. Charging a modern smartphone via USB 2.0 probably takes up to half a day. Some devices, like the iPad Pro, won't charge via USB 2.0 at all (most laptops too). There is absolutely no reason (except for cost reasons) to use USB 2.0 and Micro-USB instead of USB 3.0 and USB-C as charging ports. This is a brand new bag that just came out. If it had been 2015 I would have given her up, but 2021? This is unacceptable. Glad the bag is well made. The outer shell is hard but flexible. It offers good protection and lies flat. Inside there are many pockets for storing various things. My 12.9" iPad Pro fits easily in the laptop compartment. It fits in the other tablet pocket (right in front of the laptop pocket) but is a bit too big in this pocket, but the case still closes if you use both pockets It even has a small pocket that houses the back strap, plus another large pocket on the back of the bag.Basically, you won't lack pockets or space when using this bag.And because it lays flat, it feels it feels more compact. The case itself is really well designed, except for the charging port. Honestly, don't buy this case if you want to use the charging port. When it charges, overall you will be disappointed with how slow things charge It is better to use only USB-C portable battery and charge it directly.
