I tried this on my last trip and it worked as expected, but I had to use two cables (one for data, one for signal) to create visual clutter on a small hotel desk. On the other hand, attempting to connect a Lenovo Pro tablet as a second monitor required UNINSTALLING SECURITY UPDATES in Windows and then still had to use a Wi-Fi connection for data (which isn't as secure in hotels). One star for dirty cable, but otherwise great.
