Review on Vtech I5871 Expandable Digital Answering by Laura Taylor

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Done with V-Tech products forever

I've had this exact model (I5871) of V-Tech phone for a couple of years and finally a couple of weeks ago the main handset of the device broke. (The handset display went blank - no one could see who was calling and no access to the features.) So I bought a new base station and handset and registered the satellite units to the new base. One of the units had trouble registering with the new base unit, but it registered the next morning. Everything was fine and seemed to be working fine. Let's continue in two weeks. The new phone died along with all other phones. By dead I mean neither handset registers a dial tone on pick-up, although the base registers a dial tone through the speaker and other corded phones in the house register a dial tone on pick-up. So the problem is most likely somewhere in the base unit router. I've had this blockage for quite a while now and I know how to try and fix problems. Turning off for a few minutes to clear memory and resetting did absolutely nothing. Replacing all the cables did absolutely nothing. (Throwing it across the street did absolutely nothing except make me feel better.) I'll try the Panasonic wireless system to see if there's any other quality control at this company. (I'm not holding my breath, but they seem to have generally positive reviews.) Maybe tin cans and a very long rope.
