Review on Pyle PDBC70: 9 Outlet PDU Power Strip Surge Protector - 150 Joules, Heavy-Duty Electric Extension Cord with Rack Mount Protection and 9 Front Switches by Jonathan Unruh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Decent extension cord at a good price

I used this in my last home network stand setup. It's not a fancy PDU, just a power distributor that lets you turn individual ports on and off. That was my main reason for buying this one and not others. My rack is mounted high up in the laundry room. So if I ever have to turn a device off and on again, I don't want to climb stairs to do it. I can easily flip the switch on the front with a broomstick etc. Don't expect anything special from this extension. It's very easy. Also very light so I think the internal guts are very simplified. It's definitely not a fancy, individually shielded, internally switched computer PDU, but that's not to be expected given the price tag. I'm not even expecting much from the surge protector since my entire rig runs on an APC battery. As others may have noted in their reviews, this model's power cord is plugged in all the time, not one you can plug in. to choose your length. Not a problem for me, but would definitely be a nice addition. I could use a 1 or 2 foot power cord in my particular setup, saving the length of the cord loop in my rack. A small note, not a demo, just something Pyle might consider if they ever want to update this product in the future. I've noticed that other reviewers lost the LED backlighting in the switches after a while. I will update my review when this happens. I'm curious if this is a product longevity issue or if it is a power supply/conditioning issue. Since I'm using an APC backup that does a line conversion, this eliminates any voltage fluctuations that could cause LED life issues. The time will show.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
