Allows for the addition or replacement of a cabin air filter on older Ford Trucks/SUVs

Perfect for my 1999 Ford F150! there was no filter. To put it bluntly, to install this cabin filter you need to make a small (30 minute) modification if you've never had one! Filter. However, Ford did offer an air conditioning filter as an option, so adding one yourself is fairly easy. This filter is not suitable for every year and model. Compatible years and models are listed in the description. You don't need to buy any extra parts or special tools to have a cabin air filter! All you need is this filter, a small utility knife, 7mm and 8mm jacks. As with any DIY project, measure twice, cut once and proceed at your own risk. Look in the passenger footwell under the glove box. Next to the fan motor is a duct the same size as the filter (see pictures). Depending on your exact year and model you may need to remove the plastic trim (3 7mm screws) to see the location. The plastic air duct is a single molding with a score line to create a passage for the cabin air filter. It won't slip out, you have to cut off the plug (see before and after pictures). <At this point you will be lying on your back or on your knees in an uncomfortable position. Take your time and take a break if this bothers you. >Use your utility knife with moderate pressure along the cutting lines. It takes 20 to 40 passes to cut through the entire plastic score line. Once the plastic plug is cut out, you have a free channel for installing a cabin filter. This is a great time to grab a vacuum with a brush attachment. My rolls were full of leaves, needles, bugs and dust that had been sucked in over the past 20 years. I also removed and replaced the fan motor and resistor to make room for the vacuum brush work. Use light pressure when cleaning the coils to avoid damaging them. There are products for cleaning foam heat exchangers if you need to thoroughly clean the heat exchangers (type "automotive heat exchanger cleaning foam"). Finally, the easiest way is to install a filter. There is a recess on the sides to allow the filter to flex and clean the floor. The filter is inserted directly into the hole and forms an airtight seal. I bought 2 extras to keep on the shelf. Next time I'll have to take the filter out and put a new one in. In spring, my nose is much happier - breathe happily, friends!
