Is your radio ready for The Quickening?

I'm a big fan of AM radio and particularly the coast to coast late night talk show High Strangeness. I've always wanted a manual radio that works no matter what's going on outside. The recent blackout in the Midwest has made this all the more urgent. The Sangean Freeplay Radio was my first choice, but when I saw this little Grundig for 1/3 the price, I got really curious. Kitchen table. They had the same analog dials and settings as this little Grundig and ran for decades without a glitch. The reception at AM is great! Better than my Onkyo stereo receiver. I have a feeling when the lights go out this little radio with world reach will be worth its weight in gold. Four years later I cannot recommend this radio. The battery does not last more than a few minutes on a charge. You might think this is a good thing since batteries have a finite lifespan. However, I rarely use a battery. It's just not very good! Although it works fine with AA batteries. I wish this thing came with an AC adapter to plug it in. Also, it falls apart. The clear plastic over the station numbers fell off after a slight impact. The knobs are loosened and the volume knob now only has 2 positions; loud and barely audible. If it was an emergency radio, I'm screwed! The only good thing I would say is that it can receive AM and shortwave transmissions over long distances. However, the tuning scale is so sloppy that the small adjustments required to tune it are almost impossible. If you are looking for a GOOD self powered radio check out the Freeplay EyeMax for a similar price.
