The best emergency radio ever

Out of production, it's an excellent emergency radio. You can still find them new, unused or used and I have no problem buying them as they are durable and well made. The crank maker makes it perfect for go-anywhere use, and also features its own rechargeable batteries with AC cord and also works with AA batteries, making it the most versatile emergency radio on the planet. In addition to the AM and FM bands, it also includes two shortwave bands. I love this radio!

Good price but I'm disappointed

Works great as an emergency radio. The "crank oscillator" is relatively easy to use, the body and controls are solid, and the sound quality is very good. It's not the flimsy plastic emergency radio I've seen elsewhere. However, I was looking for a radio with excellent AM reception. Grundig's reputation and reviews of other similar radios from the same manufacturer (it's not Grundig) made me think this unit would suit my needs. Unfortunately, the AM reception isn't any better than my cheap…

A good little radio is also a good little generator.

Hurricane season has been quite a blast here in South Florida this year - and with that in mind, my hurricane bag had as many power packs as possible with multiple power packs. This little radio made the list with a built in oscillator. When I received it, I immediately tried the generator. Following the instructions, I scrolled for 3 minutes - it's fine, the gear isn't crazy, but it's not fragile either. After my start, I flipped the switch and the radio immediately started working. THEN I…

A good addition to your emergency kit

This is a small, lightweight handheld radio (with flashlight). It's plastic, but it's relatively durable for something plastic. A few minutes after starting you can listen to the radio without battery. The flashlight feature is nice, but don't forget to have a "real" flashlight in your emergency kit. The radio will pick up your local AM and FM stations much like a typical cheap transistor radio. It supports a few shortwave bands, but don't expect it to pick up Johannesburg radio on a regular…

Good product, but WHY HAS THE PRICE INCREASED BY >400% SINCE 2003?

Agree with most reviews: good sound quality for calls, no music; durable - mine eventually broke irrevocably after nearly eight years of heavy dropping; it's a good idea to have a radio/light that can run without batteries in an emergency; Shortwave is a failure: used it in Los Angeles and New York and never managed to pick up a single shortwave station (are those cities bad for SW reception?). BUT I came to this site with the intention of buying it again and was shocked at the price! In 2003…

Is your radio ready for The Quickening?

I'm a big fan of AM radio and particularly the coast to coast late night talk show High Strangeness. I've always wanted a manual radio that works no matter what's going on outside. The recent blackout in the Midwest has made this all the more urgent. The Sangean Freeplay Radio was my first choice, but when I saw this little Grundig for 1/3 the price, I got really curious. Kitchen table. They had the same analog dials and settings as this little Grundig and ran for decades without a glitch. The…
