I ordered two of these cameras to add three real cameras to my own Defender system. Can't beat the price. It's plastic, but you have to touch it to see it because it's metal-colored plastic. Connects quickly as some have mentioned, this is not a true $500 camera, parts especially the lens hood part are a bit difficult to slide. You need to slide from the side of the lens and make sure the aperture is snug in the little grooves. One was easy, the other required a little fiddling. Place it to close the space in front of the automatic garage door that now has pots and flowers. Neighbor's idiot used to film aggression on flowers, and my real cameras guarded the backyard, my car and allowed me to follow the alley. Instead of taking another real camera, mounting it outside and wiring it through the garage, I went with the cheap approach. This will fool any flower killers watching you from destroying or trespassing on my flowers. I had my dog outside at 2:45 this morning and my obnoxious neighbor slowed her car down to check out all my new plantings in the garden. She saw the camera and quickly walked past on her way to work. The red light issue was mentioned in the reviews. I base my opinion on my actual cameras. When I enter the area, a red light indicates that recording is in progress. When I look at it, yes, the batteries are constantly red, just like a real camera. Nobody wants them to go out of range and not see that the red light is on all the time. So I suggest customers put batteries in it to make it look like it's being recorded. As previously mentioned, the "cable" is not long enough to stay in its socket when the camera is rotated to a sideways position. One end is securely attached, the other end is loosely inserted into the slot on the camera tripod. When I mounted the camera to my garage wall and pulled it out to cover the corner, the cable was too long and broke. I simply tied a piece of wire to the free end, inserted it into the slot and lowered it onto the base. I fastened it around one of the screw holes and there are no more wires dangling. I recommend everyone to have a CCTV system to keep an eye out for vandals and intruders. It's a good thing that records like this exist. But a fake camera like this can fill in the gaps without spending a lot of money.
