Review on Sony ICF-C253 AM/FM Clock Radio with Digital Tuner - Dream Machine Series (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Joey Richardson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple - almost perfect

All I wanted was a clock radio with a soothing amber display, not the scary red or antique green. Just my quirk. What I've found are wall wart radios, iPhone docks (I use a droid), voices, weather alerts with sirens, weekday/weekend only alarms - gosh, that's just something that will wake me up! - Well, you understand. So I'm rewinding ten years ago, and that's Sony to boot. Essentially replaced my larger Sony that had a phone. Small footprint (7" x 5½"). Simple and clear setting of clocks and alarms directly on the front panel. A thin beep confirms the settings. The digital setting is a bonus. And he pulls stations like no other. The rep bar is front and center where it should be. Easily readable from bed. Unlike many devices with fully backlit displays, the high brightness setting doesn't light up the entire room. As mentioned, there is no battery backup. But it's so easy to install, I don't care. As I've found when swapping out a few cables, settings are retained for at least a few minutes (see product manual above). (12/24 would be nice, but outside of North America ICF-C253L).

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Faulty

Easy To Program - I don't need all the "gimmicks"
