When I installed a good Android Auto head unit in my Honda, I was surprised that the shark fin antenna had a proprietary cable. I tried connecting it to the main unit, with old school style input, but it just didn't work. So I just didn't have an AM or FM radio in my car for a few years. I could broadcast a radio station, but no radio without my phone. When I saw this very inexpensive thing I grabbed it even though I didn't think it would work. I always thought that for radio reception, the antenna had to be outside the car, that the car had a Faraday cage effect. Surprisingly, this works very well for FM reception. I didn't have AM stations. I played around with the placement, on the metal behind the head unit, on the plastic, in the glove box, generally I didn't find it made much of a difference. I could pick up the stations, they would be a little fuzzy if far away, but they work and are clear when I'm in town. The cable seems thick and insulated, 3M tape will keep the antenna in place for the rest of my car life. It's a very, very simple thing, and it's very cheap, but it works. One cannot contradict that.
