I've been wearing carbon ATs for a little over a year, lots of day hikes and a few weeks of overnight trips. I love these poles. I started out with Pacemaker aluminum cork bars and while I prefer the cork ones, I prefer the carbon ones. Something about the weight and carbon softens the connection to the ground and that's really it for me. I would buy them again anytime and they're half the price of other carbon poles I've tried and they're no better. The clutch appears to be short lived but so far there has been no sign of wear or cracking with regular use. The first few uses left a black residue, but nothing now. Follow up November 8, 2017 Sticks are still my favorite. Continue an additional 250 miles on a mix of AT section hikes and shorter day hikes. The foam grips still hold up well - the only complaint is that sweat makes them a bit slippery on hot days. up 02/04/2018 Still holding with slight signs of wear. Many kilometers and day hikes since the last trip, the next AT trip is planned for spring. The clutch still holds up well with no stains or black material. I will probably order a second pair for my son as his aluminum pair is going to his brother who will be joining our next hike. my original set. There are some scuffs on the handles but overall it holds up well. For the amount of use I've put them through I couldn't be happier. The clamp assembly is still holding up well and the legs are still attached. I can only buy a second set as a backup, but these originals will last at least another season.
