The strap feels soft and flexible rather than stiff, but the leather is strong and thick. The edges are well finished and the brass buckle feels nice, even the cap that closes the end is heavy solid cast brass. I was worried the metal detector would work with all the metal in it, but it's all brass and I haven't had to take it off yet. I was wondering why it came with a hole punch until I noticed the buckle held up. with screw. You can remove the buckle, cut the strap to length, and cut a new hole to make it a perfect fit. Mine was just the right size, I was able to cut off half an inch, but I'm saving that just in case. If in doubt, order one size larger and simply select the size yourself.
