I inherited my moms dog after she passed this year and he was used to sleeping in the bed. He’s only 6 ponds so he slept on the top next to my side of the bed. This was the perfect solution. He’s happy even though he’s not actually in the bed because he can see me. I was considering buying a playpen for a child but this is better because it has a raised area with a dip or cut out on one side making it easy for him to go from his bed to my bed when he wakes in the morning.
