operates within a 5 mile radius or less of the airport. VHF, weather doesn't work either / external antenna is good

Item works great for about 3.5/4 miles in Florida. in the north some of them might work better but here is the level. Goods correspond to the description. I have no complaints, the instructions are a bit complicated but that's only because everything is summed up in one long sentence, I wrote them and they work fine, or look for a more readable PDF guide. This is a DSP radio so I advise you to wait a second to select the desired frequency for everything to work as described. It requires some patience to learn the device. It's simple but not easy to use. If you're just getting into radio, that's a beginner. and for what you get it's not bad at all. The noaa radio could be better but it still works so here's the key. It has a noise canceling button, but you can't set it other than on/off. Overall, for the functionality and what it can do, I'd say it's worth the price, but could be around $20/$25 cheaper. it's just me Overall this is a good radio for the price. It just takes time to learn its settings, it's all I love so I can still appreciate it. I changed the antenna and it works much better than the stock antenna, it really doesn't work over long distances. I used the Wi-Fi SMA to make sure it's correct according to the antenna I bought online which didn't really help the reception but when I wrapped it in copper wire it was day and night. I mean after I modified this and soldered the SMA in and melted some plastic to put the SMA in there it worked great, I was able to pick up signals 120 miles away on a $10 VHF antenna, that's easy. I just desoldered the old one and re-soldered the new SMA then hot glued it on to hold it in place inside, assembled quickly and it works great. I made it sound like a $200 airplane scanner, but it took some work, and coiling that copper wire worked the best!

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • Not all will fit
