"Close enough " isn't that good

We struggled to find the right distance from the forehead to get an accurate measurement. Half an inch can be a full degree difference. We preferred our thermometer, which actually touched the forehead, but it fell off and stopped working, so we tried this one. Want to go back to something that isn't written in metric and gives accurate readings without guessing if we were close enough to the head to get the correct temperature?
