Review on Gates 41040 Water Pump by Roger Diaz

I've spent hours researching water pumps online and even watched videos on You Tube of how some new pumps have a stroke of up to .011 or more I chose a Gates water pump from a local supplier with a lifetime guarantee. I brought it home and removed the defective pump for comparison and noticed that the imported water pump casting was of much better quality than the valves, the housing was much deeper, as was the o-ring finish and the ribs on the impeller. The imported water pump I installed 4 years ago had far fewer casting defects. I noticed that the bearing in the gate was nice and snug and smooth (the only thing I liked) but when I did a test fit I noticed that the pump sits flat where the gasket surface was but not where the alternator bracket bolts were attached to it. I thought the body would snap when I tightened it but when I tried to attach the o-ring with high tack glue and it kept popping out that was the last straw, there was no way to put this pump on. without the O-ring falling out. My advice. Always remove the defective part first and compare it to the one you buy. Most sellers will make sure you are happy with what you buy. I'm sure I'm glad I didn't buy this online, I'd probably be stuck with another useless part if I did. Sorry Gates, I'm not impressed this time.
