Thin metal. The recommended crimping tool must be used. Do not attempt to use the insert on the pliers. They won't crimp well and the metal can cut through the insulation. The plugs and sockets provide a good solid connection to each other. Also, make sure you make all the connections before heating the heat shrink tubing or you might have trouble connecting.
