I think they are waterproof but not sure how strong the protection is. I wore them three times while wading in the creek and my feet were completely dry, and the fourth time they didn't work at all. Here's what I think happened: The last time I took them off, water got into my socks and they didn't dry until I put them back on. Did that somehow result in them not being waterproof the next time you put them on? I'm not sure though because I washed them in the washing machine between the first and second wash and it didn't seem to affect them. I dived a little deeper a fourth time and maybe they just couldn't crack it at that depth? In general, I think you should be fine with minimal water exposure at shallow depths. It also does not protect against temperature. You can feel the chill of the water although they keep your feet dry. Despite all of that, I think they add a lot to your experience and would recommend them for certain activities.
