This item replaces the original fifth wheel switch. That's great because it's the contact power required for the system to work. It turned out that the original had 10 amps, which failed due to burned contacts. I had to open up the hole and bracket a bit because the switch was larger. This was done with the help of a dremel. It was a relief not having to worry about the Switch failing while on vacation. It cost over $50 to replace the manufacturer's original switch along with the wiring harness. In most cases, no wiring harness is needed and you don't need to rewire. So for less than 20% you can repair a chassis switch and get reliability. It was a great alternative.
