I was surprised to see that the buckle uses sharp teeth to secure the belt around my waist. I have used woven military belts for many years. These buckles use a friction bar to keep the belt closed without damaging it. I thought that the teeth in the buckle under the armor might cause the belt to snap. But it didn't come to that! I have worn the belt many times and no damage! This is one of my favorite belts.
