I usually buy 55 gallon 3 mil bags from contractors but in many cases the thickness is unnecessary and 3 mil is a little expensive; especially the 55 gallons I need because of the containers I use them in (42 gallons isn't wide enough). Well, the bags aren't much thicker than regular hefty sod bags, which weigh only 1.03 mils, but it's hard to say I don't have a micrometer to measure thickness. However, I can say it's not 55 gallons, I have a lot of 55 gallon bags and I've stacked them on top of each other. These bags are 6 inches shorter and 2 inches narrower in width, they also have a utility pocket like bottom that makes them even narrower at the base. might come back but have already tried a few to see if I can get them to work. They don't work like heavy garbage bags, but make good foliage and brush bags. The whimsical shape makes them easy to stack, loop, and fill.
