This mouse replaces the Microsoft Comfort Mouse #4500 which has been retired after many years of faithful service. In comparison, the Basic Optical Mouse has a well constructed rudimentary design and I expect it to last 2 years. For the money this is good value for money. However, he has an annoying problem with jumping, which occasionally leads to fights for control. This symptom is related to the lower tracking resolution found in red IR mice as opposed to blue UV mice. Guilty; I will keep this mouse as a backup and will order another #4500.
