Review on 📷 Pentax Q 02 Standard Zoom Lens by Eric Castillo

The first thing you notice when you pick up a Q Zoom is the quality - it's one of the softest zoom lenses I've ever used , regardless of the price. While the manual focus ring is a little less premium, being made from lightweight plastic and prone to scratches, the majority of the lens is metal or solid construction and the zoom movement is very well dampened for a luxurious feel. In today's world, this is the only wide-angle and portrait lens for the Q that has a full suite of useful features like autofocus. But aside from being able to shoot at these focal lengths at Q, this lens makes less sense than you might think. Why not use a fantastically well-built zoom lens for your Q? Two things are size and image quality. The zoom size is tiny compared to other interchangeable lens zooms, but huge compared to any built-in folding zoom on a small A. And therein lies the problem - the Q approaches the size of the Somy Nex 5 when zooming in, which is the primary size advantage of the Q really kills over this and other mirrorless cameras. I could forgive the size if the image quality was excellent, after all it is very easy to handle and very easy to photograph. But the picture quality is a bit disappointing. It's normal, not bad of course, and I took some nice photos with him. But it's clear that the zoom doesn't have the resolution that the Q's tiny, high-resolution sensor needs, and the contrast is also lower than the 01 Prime and 03 Fisheye. The resulting images look like they've been captured by any other compact camera, and it's no surprise that the Q. It's not nearly as bad, and if you need a range of focal lengths and/or want the Q your only one Being a camera is a smart choice. If you use your Q more like a niche carry-on shooter. I'd skip it and wait for wide-angle and telephoto lenses to match the quality of the 01 Prime.
