Note the footprint dimensions - they do NOT include the amounts that the paper trays will stick out when full. The tray with letter-size paper (typically #1, the top tray) will stick out 2 3/4 inches, #2, the bottom tray) will stick out an additional 1 1/4 inches, for a total of 5 inches. There is no type of cover for this tray so the paper is exposed to EVERYTHING in the area. This reduces the usefulness of this printer in a home setting unless you can keep all the cats and small children away from it. Set up was easy - an illustrated getting started guide is included in the box which takes you to the point where you load the drivers into your printer. For PCs they still offer a CD, for Macintosh it's a simple download from the Canon -Website "Menu.
