Review on ๐Ÿ’ฆ Scosche Rhythm24: The Ultimate Waterproof Armband HRM with Dual Band ANT+ and BLE Bluetooth Smart by Billy Balwin

Definitely NOT a replacement for a chest strap

Having tried two of the newer models (24) and one of the old ones I can say they DO NOT replace a chest strap monitor EVER. Worn on the arm, these optical heart rate sensors have the same limitations as wrist-worn devices on any fitness watch. They only deliver good results with moderate activity in an upright running position. Vigorous sprints, high-intensity interval training, any floor-based bodyweight exercises like burpees, push-ups, and animal flow, and you're going to have all sorts of connectivity and performance issues. This applies to runners ONLY and not even to sprinters. ANY vigorous arm movement will cause the monitor to either lose connection or give ridiculously low readings (like 40 or 50 during 40 meter sprint intervals or uphill sprints). Don't rely on marketing. It DOES NOT REPLACE your trusty chest strap. I spent MONTHS getting this to work. And because I gave up in frustration and missed the Revain return date, neither the seller nor Garmin will give me a refund. This is a great device that works better than the optical HRM on my Garmin devices but ONLY for vertical activities that don't require vigorous hand movements. So if you're interested in HIIT or any other sport (besides straight running), forget it. Hold on to the chest strap. I wanted it to work and I really tried, but please spare yourself the trauma of the experience and just don't buy it unless your just into running, light skipping, or slow weight work.
