This is the second mouse of this model that I have bought, although the first model I bought about four years ago uses a real IR laser compared to this newer model, the accurate IR light emitting diode. Backlight tracking LED. Still very accurate on many surfaces compared to standard optical mice. Battery life is great. The mouse has a power saving feature that turns on after about a minute of inactivity. I had a set of AA batteries in the first mouse I bought for the last two and a half years. There is an LED indicator at the top that lets you know when the mouse exits sleep mode after you move the mouse again. Powerful and worth the money.
