70% failure rate of socket (open shell and yellow insulated end)

70% socket failure (open shell and yellow insulated end ie no center pin) on the negative lead. It's insanely high. I carefully cut off the rubber insulation to check this and although the soldering was good the wire was broken just below the soldering. Absolutely useless. I can't even believe that those 30% that worked out of the box will continue to work.
