Eh, I should have read more reviews I think. Or at least that's what I measured in a volume calculator. Because it's definitely not 5 gallons. I would be surprised if there were 4. Minus about an inch or two on top and an inch or two for the substrate, you can get 3.5 gallons of water. So, 5 gallons really is the smallest aquarium I've ever wanted. On the other hand, I've always wanted one just like that - rimless, easy-iron - also from exactly this brand. I would like more but very nice. The aquarium itself is a beautiful work of art. I got at least one open box for a discount. Condition: like new. If you measure the inside of the jar, minus the space left at the top for the water level and the space for the back, I get about 13.5 / 8.25 / 7.75 inches = 3.74 gallons.
