Advice on mounting on a canopied tank

What I did was buy a 1/2" tall 1" wide aluminum frame and just split the frame 2 pieces into 3 pieces to lay 3/4 inch and 2 inch wide strips of wood, and then I glued small, narrow pieces around the posts. This allows you to remove the aluminum posts to access the tank covers and remove the tank covers. I placed the two posts with the NICREW bulbs resting on them and the two screws in the center of the 150 watt NICREW bulb touched the two strut rails as these are the widest points on the face of the light; So you can move the light anywhere on the tracks. All three wooden bases that hold the post simply sit on top of the tank so you can easily move or remove them for access etc. These lights work great and even when mounted just 1.5" from the top of the tank they can illuminate my 30" tank with no issues. I'm just getting back into the reefs, so I'm not an expert on color settings. At 100% blue and 80% white it seems too bright so I'll set it to 80% blue and 20% white but still not sure about the ideal settings? I've only reduced it further, Blues is now 60% and it seems better since the lights are mounted so close to the top of the tank. There still seems to be enough airflow from the back of the hood open for the NICREW fans. Air circulates and it's not noisy. I know most of them use cable mounts but if your aquarium is in the living room you can leave a canopy so the whole room doesn't look like a lab experiment and this mounting method works great.
