Review on LEDMO IP67 Power Supply 300 Watts DC12V 25A AC/DC Driver Transformer Adapter Low Voltage Output With 3-Prong Plug 3.3 Feet Cable by Ricky Snyder

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Poorly packaged, but possibly good value (see details). Conditionally recommended

My LEDMO LED Driver Waterproof IP67 LED Power Supply DC12V 25A (300 Watts) arrived with some housing damage, and a gnarled mounting flange. It was the result of inadequate packaging, but I was able to flatten out the flange with some wide pliers. That the unit sustained some damage in transit isn't a huge surprise, as the power supply is pretty heavy for its size. The chassis is a finned aluminum extrusion, with plates screwed on to either end. There's a USA AC plug, and three 12VDC leads coming out of one of the plates.Despite the three sets of DC leads, the power supply appears to only have a single 12V rail, with the sets of leads apparently being there to keep you from trying to send 25A down thin wire. Instead, it will be up to you to try to keep it to 8A per pair (or less). Peak efficiency is listed at about 86%, while I measured more like the low 70s at much power than the max power level. My DC output was between 11.8 and 12.6V. Using the chassis as a heat sink worked fine in 90F+ ambient temperatures. As for the IP67 rating of the device, I can't say if it's accurate. Without taking the thing apart, it's hard to say what the waterproofing measures are, but it could be that sensitive electronics are just in a block of dielectric epoxy (though that seems unlikely, since the chassis is a heatsink). It may be, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable exposing anything like this to conditions beyond IP66(k).Ultimately, this PSU works, but it's hard to say what the longevity will be. It's impossible to know right now if the handling issues with the part will eventually hamper its operation, regardless the lack of appropriate packaging is not a good sign. The plan is to power 900 WS2812b LEDs that would go around the perimeter of my pool. I'll update my review with any developments on the project. Conditionally recommended.

Pros
  • This is a 12v power supply. Works great. Keeps cool, works as intended.
Cons
  • The LEDMO IP67 Power Supply may be prone to failure or malfunction, requiring frequent repairs or replacements
