Not bad enough to send back, but will not buy again.

There are two problematic issues mentioned in other reviews. One is leaking o-rings, and the other is relatively low water flow. I experienced both. Within 30 minutes of installation I noted a pool of leaked water. To keep the unit from leaking into the fridge interior I swapped out the o-rings from the original GE filter (looked ever so slightly greater in diameter gauge) originally provided with the fridge. That worked fine, but I suspect there are only so many times that will be a viable…

Pros
  • Keeps water at a consistent temperature
Cons
  • Diminished reliability over time

They work for me. best in my review

Without extensive water analysis there is no way to determine if these budget water filters work the same or better then the more expensive ones. I like paying the price that I pay for them and they keep my water tasting fine for 6 months. I will buy them as long as they stay competitively priced.

Pros
  • Easy to dispose of and recycle
Cons
  • Not compatible with all water sources, such as well water

Good filter on my review.

I went to the store to buy a filter and found that it was $50 for one. I previously bought a 2 pack for the same price. I refuse to pay that much for 1 filter. This filter works as it should. I will definitely reorder when its time

Pros
  • Helps prevent mineral buildup in appliances
Cons
  • Uncertain how long it will last

Fits well, no leakage on GE refrigerators. However it is such a waste of money, after only a month there is noticeable water pressure drop. I bought mine Nov 10, and by early December it was already noticeable weaker. Is a matter of maths OEM cost twice as much, but last 2-3 longer.I had originally ready all the reviews and decided not to buy the "compatible" version and bought the OEM GE in March, it lasted until November. Second time around I forgot about all my research and went with…

Pros
  • Helps maintain the integrity of water-using appliances
Cons
  • Unclear how long it takes to install

Works with a big catch.

GE cleverly engineered a method to compel its customers to purchase only GE replacement water filters! This filter is half the price and works with a huge catch: you must peel off the sensor from the original GE filter and apply it to the back of this new one in order to trick your fridge into thinking you installed another GE product. Otherwise, dispenser shuts down. No worky. The "good" news is this filter is half the price, this work-around does work, but the bad news is your fridge…

Pros
  • Provides more natural-tasting water
Cons
  • Does not remove fluoride

It isn't terrible but I can see where it would leak

BEWARE! This filter is NOT compatible with GE refrigerators that use automatic reset and date keeping, via RFID tags attached to the filter body. Even if you peel the old tag off your GE brand filter and slap it on this one, it will remember the date and therefore not function.Additionally, the snout of this filter is smaller than the OEM filter and has thinner o-rings. It isn't terrible but I can see where it would leak. I have used alternative sized filters from this company in the past and…

Pros
  • Enhances the flavor of beverages made with filtered water
Cons
  • May not work with all types of filters

Overall definitely worth the savings!

We have a GE Cafe where the filter is upright in the door. Decided to give this a try since it saves so much money. Installed it according to instructions with no modifications. It did drip (inside the filter compartment and on to the top of the freezer door) for about 2 days but then it stopped. It was not a huge amount and never enough to drip on the floor. Its been in for almost a month now and we've had no more leaking. I think the water tasted a little different at first - not necessarily…

Pros
  • Replaces original brand that cost twice as much. Can't tell how long before it will need replacing.
Cons
  • Potential for mold growth

Satisfied with this filter

This is not a direct replacement of the GE unit. The GE unit removes more impurities. For the price this is OK. I got it in a timely manner and contrary to some reviews, it did not leak.

Pros
  • Improves the safety of drinking water
Cons
  • May add an unpleasant taste or odor

It fit, and worked. you need to use the chip from the supplied dummy filter, and it will report that there is no filtration. (GE wants you to buy a $50 filter twice a year) If you are like me you don't use that much water thru this filter and GE is ripping us off.So. buy this filter, tape the electronic chip to it in the right place, mark your calendar to remind yourself to get another filter in 6 months, or sooner depending on your usage.

Pros
  • This is my second one...much cheaper than the OEM version, and as far as I can tell works as well.
Cons
  • Frustrating to replace

Prices seem to keep dropping. Filter arrived quickly. Installation was simply push-in for our GE side by side fridge with bottom freezer drawer. Some initial leaking because I pulled it out and pushed it in again to make sure I had it inserted correctly. No leaking at all now. If you do get leakage, someone recommended trying newer o-rings from the hardware store. I would try new rings first before returning the filter. You have to siphon at least a gallon of water to get rid of filter…
