Audioengine S8 subwoofer (crossed at 80 Hz). I'll mainly talk about how they work with the subwoofer as I really don't find the YU2 adequate without it. If you want near-full sound, you need a subwoofer. Even with the out-of-the-box YU2 subwoofer, they have a tinny sound that is in dire need of a mid-bass boost. This is quite normal as we work with small 3" drivers. Luckily this is easy to handle with Equalizer APO (Windows) and the Peace UI for APO. This is a powerful PC equalizer for audiophiles. Mac alternatives are, though I don't know them by name. Learn how to use these tools to avoid clipping so you can really squeeze power out of your speakers. Don't let that tinny initial sound fool you, these speakers can and do a lot more for gaming and music on PC Will they impress you with their size? Definitely. My last PC setup was a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 set. This setup is definitely a big improvement over this one. The top of the YU2 is detailed and clean. Good glossy highs , clear vocals and a punchy mid-bass after setting up the Em system If you need a subwoofer with your system for gaming, movies and music gen, I recommend the Audioengine S8. I chose it to pair with the YU2 precisely because it's a bass reflex subwoofer with a small footprint and a good woofer for a small office. If you want your explosions to sound like "BOOM", you need a port for extra bass extension. This particular sub does a great job with music. If games or movies aren't your thing, you can try Kantos SUB8 which is sealed instead. A sealed subwoofer might provide more punch, but will be missed for gaming and movies. Personally, I love the versatility of the long-throw S8. The build quality and looks of the YU2 are fantastic: the body, tweeter, driver, backplate and knobs. I have a flat white that is just perfect for me. Beautiful and high-quality workmanship. I took off a star for build quality because of the crappy mini-jack cable that came with the system. It was weak and caused a very loud buzz when wires were moved near the connector due to poor wire contact. You should choose something with a lot of gain for the mini jack. This was the only weak point as the speaker wire, RCA and power cord were fine. I chose a mini jack instead of USB as I want to use the keyboard to change the volume. Sounds good. No complaints, no hiss, no hum, even with music off and volume maxed. Very clear sound. The length of the cable is decent, so getting the cables to the left speaker wasn't difficult. My computer hangs under the table on the right and the main speaker connectors are on the left speaker. If your settings are similar, don't worry. I received them with matching coasters which I recommend. If you don't have coasters, they come with markers on discs to place on the floor. The stands position the speakers at an ear-level angle, which improves clarity. It's worth it. The 5-star sound rating I chose takes their size into account. They are great for 3 inch computer speakers. If you don't have a lot of space on your computer desk, you're not going to get much more at this price point. Their obvious competitor, the Audioengine A2+, is more expensive and from what I've read they can be noisy and more biased in terms of sound performance. Overpriced because it's more or less the same and less powerful. Overall very happy with the purchase. Great speaker at a great price.--Optimized the profile and I'm even happier with these speakers. The attached image shows my APO YU2 EQ settings using Audioengine S8. If I have one major gripe with the YU2 at the moment, it's the lack of a high-pass filter for use with a subwoofer. If you try to get a really high volume, the speakers will be distorted. Achieve cleaner sound with less distortion by sending low-frequency equalizers to the subwoofer. It still sounds loud enough that it doesn't really matter, but Kanto certainly missed the opportunity.
