What I suspected was correct. It may be difficult to explain, but when you pour liquid from a jug you have to turn the lid to either the strainer hole or the slotted hole, the liquid exits the jug through the side of the lid. The gasket is under the holes in the side of the cover. The seal seemed sufficient, but it didn't seal anything. Above the gasket there is a gap between the glass and the lid around the entire circumference of the top opening of the jug. No matter which way you turn the lid, you can't seal liquid or air. When tipping the pitcher forward, always pour out the liquid from the pitcher. Therefore, you can't put a freshness stamp on your juice, tea, or anything else you mix. This is a beautiful jug and looks well made. Too bad they didn't spend a few more minutes developing a better cap.
