I am an experienced furniture maker, so inexperience has nothing to do with it. These are not fancy shelves, I didn't expect that for the price. I REALLY expected them to be able to handle the connection. Inserting even tiny nails was like sticking a fork in a cracker. Every screw, every nail cracked, and the shelf cracked, or at least sounded like it was about to burst. The details are flimsy, the width is barely enough for the screw to fit in without cracking and cracking the "board". As I needed the shelves badly I keep them to myself but before using them I reinforced them with wood glue. This glue you need to apply to seemingly dry chipboard and then clamp it. After drying, it will be stronger than before, but unless you're willing to do all of this, I don't recommend these shelves to anyone.
