Very nice wooden blocks, very smooth and perfect for little hands. The words on the blocks, like Hotel, Hospital, and Police, are for older kids who can actually read the words, but the different buildings seem to be color-coded well enough that kids who can't read could piece them together. if it really mattered She. The same is not true for my little one, who just takes pleasure in windows and doors and places them where she pleases. I don't like the puzzle mat. My kids tend to play on the floor and the puzzle may never stay that flat and there are many cracks to contend with when trying to build a city. A folded plastic mat would have been better in my opinion but it's a wonderful set and to be honest my kids don't use the card but don't seem to miss it.
