The sound is picky but it's KEEPERS

I'm not ashamed to return the headphones, I don't like them but these are KEEPERS. They may have been the happiest headphones since my beloved Nuforce NE-700X. But to be honest, in 2014 they cost $90. Update after 2 weeks of use: I went for a bigger earbud and now they don't sit as far in the ear. Bass and soundstage are enhanced with more air around the instruments. I love it. I don't catch myself thinking that they do this or that in terms of sound. Just play music. I think that little LITTLE graininess went away with a little pause. While I don't listen to metal or EDM, they do well with all genres of music and do well with more complex music like rock compared to others I've tried. They come with 4 size tips, making it easier to find the right size than pairs that only include 3 size tips. The tips hold the nozzle very well, but are still easy to remove and put on. They come with very small earhooks but I haven't tried them yet. There's no listening fatigue, but they're still fairly accurate. They're not very loud, but loud enough for me. I didn't play with the EQ much because I didn't feel the need to. The wires are thin and fairly easy to tangle and not very easy to untangle. I didn't notice the microphone. Of course I would love to have buds for $100 but for $55 I really like them but I won't cry if I lose their price. =================== ========================= Original ReviewYou haven't even been already chopped (and they don't have to be), but my only real complaint, and it's picky, is that they have a slight graininess to them. But not nearly as strong as the Carbo Tenor. They're very neutral with decent detail, but never too bright. There's good separation between instruments, but not much soundstage, but there's plenty of "air" around the instruments. They don't have much extension, but they don't shy away from bass like the Carbo Tenor. The drums sound natural, again not like the Carbo Tenor where they are more like cardboard boxes. They are very light and very comfortable. (I like the straight earbuds best) The standard earbuds fit me best, which is a nice change for me. As you can see from the picture, there is almost no strain relief on the headphones. So if you're struggling with headphones, you might want to consider other phones. On the other hand, the lack of strain relief makes them very comfortable to wear wires, which I wish for the gym. They have vents on the back so I doubt the isolation is very good for in-ear phones. Overall it's a neutral sound without any hi-fi "issues". They're never too sizzling or punishing for poorly recorded songs or when listening to low bitrate music like Pandora. I'd call them fun for a workout, but they're not too dry if the quality of the music is up to your standards. They won't impress anyone or bother you listening to your best music. But for $54 I'm very happy with them and for me it's a big step up from the Carbo Tenor unless you're impressed with the forward/roaring sound.
