No power to work

I bought this device to work with my version of surface pro 7. It fits perfectly. It connects easily. BUT I connected a portable hard drive and a mouse to it and the computer didn't recognize either. The reason I bought this device was to use these two devices with one computer in different locations. It has no power source and therefore will not work as the computer is not providing enough power to run it. Damn.
