The stand should fit a 17.3 inch laptop but the stand is only 6.5 inches wide

This is a very small stand. That would probably be fine for a 10-inch laptop, given that it's only 6.5 inches wide. I was very disappointed in its tiny size and would never have ordered it had I known how tiny it is. For a 17.3-inch laptop, it had to be twice as wide.
