I had a suitcase from another company that had a metal security strap and after three years it started to fall apart. Bought these because I like the look. Fits very well. As for protection from falls, I'm not sure, but I won't check. I found the power button very sensitive. You can actually remove the buttons and I saw they have a rim to make contact. Took a razor and shaved off the comb and now the power button works much better.
