My original push button switch (spring and all) was blown out of my assembly and water was leaking out of the hole. The hardest part about replacing it was getting the screws out of the wall, which were probably there before I was born. After the cover was removed it turned out that installing a 7/8 outlet around the old switch would be difficult due to the wall in the shower getting in the way. I made the executive decision to chop off a piece of the wall. Once that was done the 7/8 head fit like a glove, I didn't even have to use the wrench handle. I pulled out the old switch tab with a pair of pliers. The tab was no longer linked to anything. I put a layer of tape on the switch's threads and used a 7/8 socket to hold it in place. Once the faucet assembly was in place, I pushed the switch button and voila! Runs like clockwork and no longer leaks! It took me about an hour and a half, but it takes about 20 minutes if your screws aren't as rusty as mine and the wall isn't interfering with pulling them in. The mounting covered where I broke off the wall so can't even tell.
